Samoëns is a charming village in the French Alps. It's a wonderful base for our Samoëns Snowshoe Week. From here we will take advantage of the excellent snowshoeing trails and achievable summits, enjoying the magical snow-covered landscapes and stunning scenery along the way. The proximity to Mont Blanc, and the peaks of the Cirque du Fer à Cheval, gives the area a 'big mountain' feel.

What to expect

For this trip we will be based in a charming 2* hotel in the lovely village of Samoëns, with breakfast and dinner included. Our group will share ensuite twin rooms - single rooms may be available for a supplement, but are subject to availability and must be requested well in advance.

Each day we will aim to cover around 5-10 kilometres, with ascents between 400 and 720 metres, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. No prior experience of snowshoeing is needed, however, as the techniques are relatively simple, and easy to learn. If you have any questions at all about whether this trip is right for you, just ask.

Samoëns Snowshoe Week: Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Samoëns

We will meet at the group hotel in Samoëns. There will be an informal trip briefing so that your guide can answer any questions you may have about the week ahead, followed by dinner.

Accommodation: Hotel, dinner included

Luggage access

Day 2 - Summit La Bourgeoise

We will don our snowshoes for the first time and 'find our feet', before easing ourselves into our trip with a nearby summit. La Bourgeoise, at 1770 metres, is the perfect start to the week and gives us great views of the area we will be exploring. We will aim to have lunch at the cross on the summit, before taking a different route back down to Samoëns. We will pass below the Col de Joux Plane, which any fan of the Tour de France will certainly have heard of!

Accommodation: Hotel, dinner included

Luggage access

Walking: approx 5 hours

Distance: 5km

Altitude gain: +700m

Day 3 - Summit Pointe Ratti

Today we will start by taking a transfer to the popular ski town of Morzine. We have a steady climb up to the Col de l'Encrenaz, where we can stop for a coffee before tackling our summit. We follow a ridgeline to Pointe Ratti (1923m), climbing above the treeline, and enjoying dramatic views of the rugged peaks and cliffs of the Roc d'Enfer.

Walking: approx 4.5 hours

Distance: 6km

Altitude gain: +490m

Day 4 - Summit Pointe de la Golèse

After breakfast we will take a short transfer to the start of today's trail. A winding climb takes us above the treeline, past ancient farm buildings, and on to open pastures. We reach a snowy bowl, and a ridgeline that leads us to the summit of the Pointe de la Golèse (1835m).

Day 5 - Summit of Le Partaset

Today starts with a transfer to Bonnavaz, past the beautiful old chapel. A forest trail brings us into an open area beneath the Pointe d'Uble, as we head towards Le Paraset (1606m). From the summit we enjoy great views of Pointe Ratti and the surrounding mountains, and usually as far as the Dents du Midi. As today is a shorter day we can take the opportunity for a well-earned rest before the week's final summit.

Day 6 - The Bostan Valley

Today we will explore the beautiful and peaceful Bostan Valley, meandering up through the forest, beneath the jagged limestone cliffs. As we reach the Refuge de Bostan we keep our fingers crossed that the guardian will be there to make us hot chocolate, or even lunch! After lunch we can explore this beautiful remote valley, and enjoy our time in the mountains.

Day 7 - Summit Tête de la Sallaz

Today is our big summit day, as we aim for the Tête de la Sallaz at 2026 metres. First we will take a transfer to our starting point in the village of Romme. The terrain is manageable and perfect for snowshoeing but we will definitely have a sense of being in the high mountains on today's summit. As we climb we enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the Mont Blanc Massif and the nearby Pointe d'Areu. This is the perfect end to our snowshoe adventure.
